Dragonfly (Blue Dasher) & IMT, "Heal"

This morning I was out watering my flowers and noticed a brilliant, blue, dragonfly (Blue Dasher) resting on a purple coneflower. It was so striking to see the juxtaposed color of the dragonfly and flower... but by the time I went inside to find my camera he was gone. It was such a fleeting moment that I decided to create an illustration of it and also have it reflect this weeks Inspire Me Thursday theme "Heal".
Mind vs. body, spirit vs. medicine... such a loaded topic, but that makes the best kind of art right? Well, since I have never been a "in  your face" type artist, you know a true Hammer, I was a bit more subtle in this. I believe that a lot of things can effect your health, stress is a biggie for me. Surrounding yourself with things that make you happy - music, art, laughter, family, nature - is part of living a healthier lifestyle. A brief pause in an otherwise hectic morning, to stop and glimpse a brilliant looking dragonfly, was relaxing... well until I raced back inside to find my camera... but you get the idea. =)
Before I sign off for the weekend, I want to send a big hug to Alyssa and Ryan who are on "holiday".  I know that Alyssa will be checking my blog (she is one of my biggest fans) and can't wait to hear what she thinks about this dragonfly. We have so many of these wonderful creatures around us during the summer months and often try to have them land on our hands for a better view. Love you guys, we will see you soon!
Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for stopping by today.

Thanks Eric! I am trying to break into the greeting card market, so you comment brought a big smile to my face... although not everyone out there may appreciate a rather detailed Blue Dasher! =)

Fannie, glad you stopped by. I LOVE that you find my art calming, what a compliment! And there is something really striking about the detail in a dragonfly's wings.

Thanks Kate, I am happy it brought back some fond memories for you.

Amen! I try every day to take a moment out of my hectic life and just breathe and enjoy beauty while I'm out walking the dog. It's the little things, like this fleeting dragonfly, that brighten my day. You managed to capture him just beautifully. All your work is really beautiful!

lovely art and quote. I also feel the healing presence in nature. To me it feels as though nature holds a steady presence that is in balance.I often visit this stability to remind me of my own. Your post is lovely!

Wow This is really wonderful! It could be a whole series of cards!

Really love the simplicity of it. That is one thing in art that is very difficult. To pull of something that is beautiful but simple. . .very very hard.

Oh this is soooo beautiful!
I love dragonflies. I gree with you that certain things about your health you have in your own hands by creating peace and happiness around you in a world that is often too busy and crazy.
Well an illustration like this and the quote is good for a smile and a smile is good for your health, so thanks Lisa!
